The makings of a good workhorse
By: Brian on 20 December 2019I was looking for a pocket toolbox for whittling, not a showpiece and this knife has the quality to do what I want without any fancy blade patterning I am going to feel bad about when I scratch it all to **** Ditto to any fancy handle scales made of mother of pearl or rosewood clunking against coinage. Add to this the price being nearly half of the above mentioned and this one was the logical choice. Unboxing it just now I gave it a good look over and tested the blades. Overall it looks well made and disappears in my fist with the blades closed with only the very ends visible. The only quibble is that the hinge ends of the blade backs are a bit all over the place as far as squareness is concerned. I know it's a small, possibly just visual thing but knives from other manufacturers I have bought recently have been square there. It's made in China for the market outside the US and Canada so I wonder what the US version looks like. I had a half finished project on hand and tried out all the blades for factory sharpness and for a change I won't have to put a better edge on it before I can carve wood. The main blade is slim and sharp along it's whole length with a slight tendency to want to close when using the opposite thump on the tip for push cuts which might be an issue if the knife was blunt and needed a lot of pushing but it doesn't. The spey and sheepsfoot blades are also refreshingly keen out of the box but, not being as long, don't seem to want to close in a push cut. Despite my looking in the gift horse's mouth I think this knife is going to be a great tool and deserves five stars. The checkout and shipping were dazzlingly swift with it in my hands in about 48 hours of me placing the order.
