The Novaculite stones are divided into four grades. Black Hard Arkansas, Hard Arkansas, Soft Arkansas & Washita. Each grade has a different degree of abrasive quality and sharpening ability.
BLACK HARD Arkansas is the supreme ultimate in a finishing whetstone. This stone is used only on blades which are already extremely sharp. This stone is the final step in sharpening high quality cutlery.
All Arkansas Hones oilstones are quarried from limited and delicate deposits of the mineral Novaculite, which is found only near Hot Springs, Arkansas.
